Jon Saperia, President
Background and Accomplishments
Brief Summary
Jon Saperia has worked as an independent consultant
since
1999. Before then he
worked for
a wide range of
public and private corporations. He has
extensive
experience in computer and network systems development and deployment
with
an emphasis on standards-based network, device, application, and
service
management technology. For more than 20 years he has worked in the
Internet Engineering Task Force
as a contributor, author, and working group chair in many areas related
to management software. He has created management software product
direction
for system, network, and application vendors as well as a
number
of service providers. His architecture, design and
development
efforts have created award winning management software. In January
2003
he founded and served as President of Ohia Networks, Inc. which
developed an integrated set of patent pending service management
software for
enterprises and service providers. He has had significant operational
experience running
software engineering efforts and IP network operations at a CLEC with a
significant VoIP portfolio. Since September 2006 he has
focused
on IP management issues for next generation defense networks.
Experience and Services
Jon Saperia has been involved in all aspects of the
development and deployment of SNMP and other standards-based
management technology. In addition, he has had experience in the design
and development of 'back-end' systems at service providers that
provided customer, vendor management, service and billing facilities.
He has performed these and other roles at a wide variety
of organizations including enterprises, device vendors, service
providers, network technology startups, and
application development organizations.

- Recommendations for standards support in a variety of
products.
- Translation of proprietary management objects to SNMP
compliant
MIB
modules.
- Optimization recommendations for performance and
application
efficiency.
Technical
Assessments and Software
Integration/Evolution
- Evaluation of existing software systems at service
providers and
enterprises and devised integration and evolution plans using existing,
third party, and custom developed software.
- Evaluated proprietary capacity and performance planning
software
and
recommended
methods to migrate to standards-based data collection systems.
- Evaluation of current product offerings and technology and
recommended
enhancements to base technology for new products.
- Assessment of new management software strategies,
recommendations
for
redirection of resources, acquisition and development of new
technologies and phased implementation of functions.
- Assessments of ISP management software infrastructures and
applications, recommend enhancements or new areas of development -
recommendations regarding make versus buy decisions.
Technical Acquisition Releated to Network, Systems and Service Management Contracts
- Generation of RFPs.
- Review of RFP responses for vendor selection.
- Review of contractor performance.
- Input to, and guidance on, contractor activities.
Product
Development
Leadership
- Created management software development organization for
startup
which
included all aspects of hire, administration, product vision, task
assignment and management including development of common architecture
for embedded software as well as management applications.
- Created new vision for a wider range of products based on
existing
architectural components.
- Created and evolved several software development groups in
existing
organizations and provided guidance and training on how to build new
products based on SNMP and other networking standards-based
technology.
Product
Strategy and
Direction
- Identified for several companies how to migrate from
proprietary
management
solutions to standards-based solutions to better leverage development
efforts
and improve market perception.
- Identified new product opportunities based on existing
software
and
made
recommendations for expanded technical capabilities in a variety of
areas
including the acquisition of third party components.
